The Helix

Manufactured and installed for White City Place, West London.

The Helix, a new interactive ‘light and sound’ art installation and creative space, is part of the wider cultural programme at White City Place in West London.

The Project

The concept was inspired by the structural spiral-like form of a DNA helix. The intricate structure of The Helix emits light and ambient sound and is controlled by motion passing within and outside the installation. The idea of The Helix was devised by White City Place to bring their community together.

Gallagher Engineering were tasked with the construction of The Helix structure.

The Challenge

Working directly with the architectural lighting company, Gallagher Engineering was directly responsible for all aspects of the design, manufacture and installation of this structure.

Based on an initial concept for the sculpture, Gallagher Engineering produced detailed design drawings providing complete and precise descriptions of the structure parts, shape and proposed manufacturing method.

The Solution

Based on the specialist fabrication skills and manufacturing expertise of Gallagher Engineering, the sculpture’s frame was produced at our workshop using a mix of aluminium and steel. The total structure manufactured measured 2.8 metres tall and 12 metres long.

Providing a complete project service, the experienced installation team at Gallagher Engineering were responsible for the successful installation of the project onsite.

Gallagher Engineering worked within a tight time frame to ensure the project was delivered on time and to budget.

The Helix project demonstrates Gallagher Engineering’s ability to tackle challenging and unusual work, that requires specialist fabrication knowledge and expertise.
